Novato Girl Scouts Day Camp will not be able to run without a Director!
Qualifications: • Experience working with staff and/or volunteers in a youth-oriented program environment • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with campers, parents, volunteers and staff • Pleasant, positive and confident presentation of self and council • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and exercise good judgement • Willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scouts Movement and acceptance of the relevant and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting • Register as a Girl Scout member, pass background testing, and fulfill the Girl Scouts training requirements for the Volunteer Day Camp Director role (GS NorCal Training).
Responsibilities: • The Day Camp Director will be responsible for planning, implementing and leading our summer day camp, an outdoor education program. • The director will provide day-to-day management and direction for day camp operations including hiring, training, supervising, supporting and training seasonal summer camp volunteers to implement a summer camp program that meet and align with the needs of girls, and Girl Scouts USA and American Camp Associate (ACA) policies and procedures • Marketing efforts to promote and grow summer day camp • Ensuring programs are conducted in a safe and efficient manner • Evaluating and monitoring programs to ensure the interests and needs of girls are being met • Developing and maintaining day camp budget, in conjunction with the treasurer and administrator • Addressing and resolving conflicts, and maintaining positive relationships with campers, parents, volunteers and staff • Supervising summer staff and volunteers hired to support programs and events

The Role of the Camp Director: • Responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Girl Scout program in a volunteer-run camp setting. • Ensures camp adherence to GSUSA program standards, Girl Scouts of Northern California council program policies and California State laws. • Participates in required training and professional development related to the position. • Coordinates the logistics, financials, and program of the camp. • Oversees recruitment and training of camp staff. • Budgets and reports operating funds for camp to the council. • Coordinates staff supervision during camp. • Coordinates equipment and supply needs. • Conducts staff evaluation at the close of camp. • Schedules and conducts a staff evaluation meeting within 30 days of the close of camp. • Meets/communicates with the council liaison to occur during the camp session to within 45 days after the close of camp. • Completes post-season reports to submit to council liaison prior to September 1st. • Completes other duties as needed.
Qualifications: • 25 years or older • At least 2 seasons of previous experience in administration or supervisory capacity related to organized youth activities, preferably at camp • Ability to select, train, and supervise staff • Financial management skills • Ability to make good judgment regarding personnel problems, health and safety procedures, and crisis situations • Ability to evaluate and make desirable changes • Flexibility • Girl Scout First Aider desirable • Strong organizational skills • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills • Knowledge of Girl Scout program and safety practices • Ability to traverse camp properties and other outdoor sites
Effective Camp Committees: • Meet regularly at a time conducive to the team, and announce regularly to all interested volunteers. • Develop positions with clear job descriptions and expectations. • Take minutes at each meeting and distribute in a timely manner before the next meeting. • Allow members to submit suggestions for the agenda. • Develop a timeline of work activities which is followed. • Establish norms for behavior during meetings. • Adhere to safety regulations regarding camps as established by the State of California, GSUSA and Girl Scouts of Northern CA. • Are composed of volunteers who actively support the offering of camp for girls and accept the responsibility to contribute positively to ensure its success through effective communication and behavior.
